There are many benefits for having artificial turf installed on your lawn, but let’s talk about one of the top benefits, the ease of maintenance.

There are a fewbasic steps we recommend to keep your artificial turf looking clean and pristine. With regular use and other environmental factors, debris can build up over time on your artificial turf. Follow these simple steps to help protect the longevity of your artificial turf and in turn your investment.

Here are a few easy steps to help maintain the look and longevity of your artificial turf.

#1 Use ice to clear sticky stuff

If for some reason your artificial turf comes into contact with a sticky substance, eg: tree sap or gum. The quickest and easiest way to clean it up is to make it cold enough to be able to pick it up with your fingers. We recommend using either ice cubes or an aerosol refrigerant, these will freeze the sticky substance and in turn make it easier to pick apart and remove. If you are choosing to use an aerosol refrigerant, we recommend trying it on a small unnoticeable area first.

#2 Use spirits for stubborn stains

If your artificial turf ever comes in contact with oil or oil-based products. Rinse the area where the stain is gently with mineral spirits, also known as mineral turpentine. Gently using a rag blot up the excess liquid this degreaser should help remove the oil-based product from your artificial turf.

However, in saying so, it is always preferable to apply it in a small inconspicuous area before actually applying it on the stain, as there is no guarantee in the outcome. This may also void the warranty of your artificial turf.

#3 Removal of blood

Although your artificial turf is mainly used for residential purposes, situations may arise where your turf will come in contact with blood. In such cases, use a mixture equal parts of vinegar and water.

However, in saying so, it is always preferable to apply it in a small inconspicuous area before actually applying it on the stain, as there is no guarantee in the outcome. This may also void the warranty of your artificial turf.

#4 Regular cleaning of the artificial grass

Brushing your artificial turf regularly if it is in a high traffic area will not only help keep it looking great, but it will also help keep dust, dirt, and leaves off of your turf. To accomplish this easy and quick task you can use either an artificial turf specific rake, a power broom or a wet/dry shop vac to vacuum up any debris. Just run it over your artificial turf against the blades to brush them up and remove any unwanted debris.

#6 Removal of pet waste

Remove as much solid waste manually as possible then simply rinse with a hose. If it’s necessary for you to wash the area, mix one and a half cup of “Simple Green Solution” with a gallon of water in a bucket. Apply the Simple Green Solution on the patch and scrub gently then rinse. The solution is odourless and useful for removing pet wastes. Once clean use your artificial turf specific rake to brush up your grass blades.

However, in saying so, it is always preferable to apply it in a small inconspicuous area before actually applying it on the stain, as there is no guarantee in the outcome. This may also void the warranty of your artificial turf.
